Why?
- Ideal for clients with cancer, alopecia and other hair loss conditions, Semi Permanent Make Up can be performed 6 weeks before or after chemotherapy or radiation to ease the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes
- Allergy sufferers who react to conventional cosmetic products
- No more daily hassle of applying make up or losing it when swimming or in the sun
- People who require correction of asymmetry of facial features or correction of conditions such as cleft lip
Is the procedure painful?
Every client is different but with advanced new equipment and techniques discomfort is minimal.
Do I have a choice on colour and placement?
Yes, although advice will be given, You are in control every step of the way from desired shape to colour selection. A colour tone is selected and the initial outline of the procedure area is pencilled on for you to approve prior to treatment. Once you are completely happy with the shape and symmetry, the pigment is applied.
How long will it last?
Pigment molecules stay in the skin indefinitely and the colour remains visible for several years. This is variable depending upon age, skin type, colour choice and lifestyle.
There is no guarantee as each individual will respond differently. In order to keep the look fresh and natural, a colour retouch is advisable every 12 - 18 months. More frequent colour retouches may be required where you choose a softer lighter shade.

How long will it take?
An initial consultation and patch test appointment should take about 20 minutes. You should then allow a minimum of 1.5 hours for your first Semi Permanent Make Up procedure. Two treatments are required to complete an area. The second review stage of the treatment should be taken between 4 to 8 weeks after the first procedure because it takes that time for the pigment to settle in the skin. This touch up treatment gives the client an opportunity to get used to the initial finish before the final treatment consolidates the pigment into the skin preventing fading. Allow minimum 1 hour for your second appointment.
What happens after the procedure?
Immediately post procedure the area treated may appear swollen and the colour will appear darker and more intense. This can last for a couple of days. You can go out immediately. On the second day post treatment a light crust will form, this will fall off over a few days. During this time the pigment may look up to 40% darker until it heals.
Full aftercare instructions will be given. Complete healing can take up to four weeks for the pigment to mature in the skin and the true colour to emerge.
A review appointment will be needed 4-8 weeks later to complete treatment. Colour will fade gradually over time, colour refresh is advised every 12-18 months.

What should I consider before proceeding with the treatment?
- THINK BEFORE YOU INK ! Choose your technician wisely; consider the duration and standard of training they have received. I trained with Finishing Touches who are recognised as the leaders within the industry, and since I have attended numerous courses to specialise and continue my professional development. Please click HERE to see some of my certificates.
- Don’t “shop around”. Picking the least expensive technician may not be the best idea – are they using sterile disposables, are they insured correctly? Is the training and experience extensive enough? Are they registered with the local council and up to date with the industry? Is there adequate aftercare provided? Are you being offered a patch test ? You must have confidence in your choice. Also picking the most expensive option is also not a guarantee of quality and professionalism either.
- Probably the most reliable option is to go on word of mouth – ask around, get recommendations, ask to speak with former clients, read testimonials and take your time making a decision.
- Do not compromise on your care and safety, make sure thorough consultations and patch testing is a preliminary requirement.
- Equipment is an important consideration as rotary machines still used are outdated and not as safe as the digital Precision Plus which is the only equipment certified for cosmetic and medical procedures and suitable for use in a operating theatre. The result is less discomfort during treatments and more accurate results. It is the machine of choice for hospitals, medical clinics and advanced professional technicians.
- Beware false advertising – Understanding that everybody is a beginner sometime it is not fair to mislead potential clients about experience and qualifications. A reputably trained and experienced technician will not mind explaining their Semi Permanent Make Up history and providing examples of work and certificates so don’t be afraid to ask.
